How not to fall off the training wagon

We all have times where there are a huge number of social gatherings that you need to attend, all of which offer copious amounts of really unhealthy food and drink, contributing nothing towards your weight loss goal that you want to achieve before the end of the year.

The majority of us will give in to peer pressure and decide to start again in the New Year. However, that does not need to be the case. There are a number of ways you can stay motivated to ensure you don’t fall off the wagon and fall back to your old habits.

By setting yourself a meaningful goal it will give you the will power to say no to unhealthy choices. For example, you’ve booked a transformation photo shoot, or completing a 10km road race or losing 5kgs. Whatever it is, share it with as many friends and family members as you can. That way they will also support you with your goal and will not only be reluctant to offer you bad food choices in the future, they will also accept your decision when you say “No thank you, I need to train tomorrow”.

Another way to stay motivated is to book an exercise appointment. If that’s a group fitness exercise class, a personal training session or just adding a workout into your diary. People are more likely to stick to a plan if they have made an appointment, as there is then a commitment to attend. Set it into your diary 24 hours in advance and get your phone to remind you of your session.

The other important aspect of staying motivated is doing an activity that you enjoy.
